UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs Sakai

Source: Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC

The Heavyweight division is on the up and up with the looming insurgence of Jon Jones. Speaking of which, the man in the main event tonight has offered up his services on welcoming the GOAT to the division, but Overeem will have to deal with a tough test in Augusto Sakai first. Also on the card is the COVID wonder himself OSP, as he and Menifield run back a matchup that was supposed to happen not too long ago. It's a mish mash card but it has a lot of promise, so here we go! Alistair Overeem vs Augusto Sakai

This matchup is an interesting one and a lot of people believe that Sakai is the real deal, and I am one of those people. However, I think his volume > power style (I say that loosely) plays right into the hands of the superior striker Overeem. Alistair has always been a very patient striker and more recently has become very cautious as well, and for good reason due to him essentially having no chin left.

However, you can not overlook his comeback win against an emotional Walt Harris, and if he could've lasted another 5 seconds against Rozenstruik then Overeem would be riding a 4-fight win streak. Sakai has amassed a really good string of fights himself, and has really impressive hand speed for his size, but unless he clips Overeem I don't see him outpointing the vet.

Prediction: Alistair Overeem, Decision

Alonzo Menifield vs Ovince St Preux

Man, Menifield is built like a brick shithouse, the dude has gains for days! However, Devin Clark laid out the blueprint for mellowing out Alonzo's power; clinch work and timely striking, I expect OSP follow this gameplan to a tee. It's a big if, but IF OSP can weather the early storm I can see him taking advantage of the gap in grappling prowess.

Prediction: OSP, decision

Zelim Imadaev vs Michel Pereira

If the weigh-ins are any indication then this fight should be quite entertaining. Pereira is the favourite to end this fight early, but if Imadaev can somehow drag this fight into the trenches then he could nab a surprise victory. However, Pereira is too gifted to not end this one spectacularly.

Prediction: Michel Pereira, 1st RD TKO

Brian Kelleher vs. Kevin Natividad

This fight is the lowest of lowkey bangers you'll ever see. Natividad throws bombs and Kelleher is quite scrappy himself. This is my pick for fight of the night, and it's also a good spot for Natividad to take out a fairly well-known fighter in his UFC debut.

Prediction: Kevin Natividad, 2nd RD TKO

Thiago Moises vs Jalin Turner

Both of these guys have had their ups and downs in the UFC but when all things are even skilled wise, you have to factor in size, and holy shit is Turner huge for this division! As the old saying goes; a good big man always beats a good small man. I'll go with Turner.

Prediction: Jalin Turner, Decision
