Toronto vs RUNY - Game #14 Preview, Lineups & Streaming Info

Source: José Romelo Lagman / Toronto Arrows

The Toronto Arrows have been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention with their loss to the NOLA Gold last weekend. However, the club still has plenty to play for. Departures for international duty are on the horizon. Leandro Leivas, Gastón Mieres, and Manuel Diana are already in Uruguay. Of course, there will be a big contingent of Canadians heading overseas to play Wales and England.

Ultimately, this opens up opportunities for players to step up and prove they are worthy of contracts for the 2022 campaign. A match against Rugby United New York is also a grand opportunity to ruin someone else’s year. RUNY currently hold an 8-4-0 record with 41 points. The three-point lead on NOLA is minimal at best. A NOLA win over the Free Jacks combined with an Arrows win, could make for some unhappy Roosters.

Starting XV

New York

RUNY are the latest victims of a Utah Warriors’ last second victory, and need a big win against a team that blew them out earlier in the year. Canadian Quinn Ngawati will get the start on the wing as Marty Veale rolls with a Will Leonard, Fa’asiu Fuatai centre combination. It will be Ngawati’s last game before heading over to Europe to earn his first cap. Captain Dylan Fawsitt and prop James Rotchford both left last week’s match with injuries and neither will feature today. Wilton Rebolo and Zak Taulafo will start in their place.

Toronto

Plenty of changes to the Arrows lineup as they prepare to lose the international stars. The club will be without their Los Teros trio. Lucas Rumball, Ben LeSage, Ross Braude, Andrew Quattrin, Pat Parfrey all get the day off as well. As of the time of this writing, Spencer Jones’ status after suffering a leg injury last week has not been publicly updated. Members of the Canadian national team that are in the lineup include Tyler Rowland, Will Kelly and Cole Keith. Guiseppe du Toit covers Jones’ spot at inside centre for the match.

Tayler Adams returns to the lineup and will slot in at fullback shifting Joaquín Tuculet to the wing. Kobe Faust will make his MLR debut off the bench. A handful of new recruits will also feature during the match. Ronan Foley will start in the back row, which also welcomes the return of Tomás de la Vega. Joe Tomlinson and Ollie Nott will come in off the bench. The legendary Sam Malcolm also returns and will be in the 23 jersey.

Match Storylines

As I mentioned in the intro, the storylines in this game are pretty simple. RUNY is in the thick of the Eastern Conference playoff race. The Arrows are looking to earn contracts for next year, and perhaps pull someone down with them. The Arrows are going to be without many star players over the next few weeks. Who will step up?
