Top 5 Moments From the Apex Era

Source: UFC

UFC 251 is almost here as we are just one sleep away until "Fight Island" loses its fight virginity, but may we not forget how well the string shows at how UFC's Apex facility went. From a couple of classic fights, to a champion solidifying her spot atop of MMA's mountain top, and a woman standing by her man, here are the top 5 moments from the Apex era:

5. A Queen Reigns Supreme

UFC 250 was a showcase of the Bantamweights, but the queen of the cage reminded us that she is the one who headlined the card for a reason. There weren't a lot of detractors, but there were some who doubted Nunes' ability to put the pace on Spencer, especially given her grappling background. However, from round 1 to 5 The Lioness beat the brakes off the Canadian in dominant fashion.

4. Mike Perry Gets Help From His Gal

Platinum has always been an interesting character to say the least, but when he hinted at the notion of having just his girlfriend in his corner for his coming fight with MIckey Gall many were concerned. It's no secret cornermen get a percentage of a fighters purse and Perry felt that his recent ones having been earning their share, so he enlisted his girlfriend. His gal helped him beat Gall. Touching, and entertaining.

3. Garbrandt/O'Malley Knockouts

This one doesn't need much explanation, there was a ton of hype for Sugar Sean's return against the vet Eddie Wineland, and the rainbow haired assassin slept him with a crafty right straight. Garbrandt on the other hand left craftiness on the side and resorted to pure violence knocking out Assuncao with a bolo type hook. Both men's stock have shot through the roof, and a future meeting may be in the cards.

2. Poirier and Hooker Ends Apex Era With A Bang

The main event of the final Apex card was everything we thought it would be. Poirier was coming off a devastating loss to Khabib, while Hooker was coming off a big win over Felder. It was a lock this fight would be an entertaining one but I don't think anyone was prepared for this back and forth clash. The first two rounds saw Hooker dictating the action, but The Diamond would charge back the last three rounds. What a way to cap off the Apex Era.

1. Emmett and Burgos Engage In A Classic

It's hard to make a case that a three round mid-card fight should take the number one spot over a five round main event, but this was a special fight. Burgos was the favourite, Emmett felt slighted given his track record, it all added up to a violent encounter. Both men took each others best and what makes it all the more impressive is that Emmett went to war on one leg. Also, Burgos has one hell of a chin.
